Public Art : Art Collection

TileLink was the first permanent Arts in Transit installation and consists of glazed ceramic tiles made students and local residents. Artist Catharine Magel led the community design project.

Poetry Spirals is composed of two brass spirals embedded in the plaza of the Hampton-Gravois Transit Center and was created by artists Con Christeson and Phil Robinson. A poem is inscribed on the spirals, beginning on one and ending on the other.

Oasis is an aluminum and laminated glass sculpture installed overhead at the Clayton MetroBus Center that was created by Catherine Woods. The panels symbolize the four basic alchemical elements (earth, air, fire, and water) as well as a fifth element rooted in the concept of good luck.

A Line Meant (Circular)... Alignment (Reasoning) is a public art sculpture installed at the North Hanley MetorLink Station that was created by artists Bob Hansman and Ben Hoffmann. The stainless steel artwork has inside and outside components that interact with each other as well as the existing architecture.

Speed Shift is a public art light sculpture created by Erwin Redl and installed at the Skinker MetroLink station. Two boards of LED lights pulse, reflecting the demands of mass transit.

Hoi Polloi is a public art installation created by Lindsey Stouffer at the Forsyth MetroLink Station. Perforated, stainless steel screens appear to shimmer as people walk by.

A Walk in the Park is a public artwork created by Andy Cross, Carl Harris, and Ty de LaVenta that is mounted to sections of a soundwall that runs along the MetroLink right-of-way between the Skinker and Forest Park-DeBaliviere stations. The panels are made from waterjet-cut aluminum and depict the silhouettes of trees, vines, and trellises.

If You Lived Here You'd Be Home is a public art installation by artist Janet Zweig at the Maplewood-Manchester MetroLink station. Two illuminated signs made from construction materials spell out MAPLEWOOD, with one written forawrds and one written backwards.

Grandfather Clocks is a public installation of three ceramic sculptures by Carol Fleming located at the Clayton MetroLink station. Each is reminiscent of old railroad clocks and encourage people to pause during their commute.

Hive is a public art sculpture by artist Janet Lofquist installed at the Delmar Transit Plaza. The sculpture is made of COR-TEN steel and has a honeycomb structure, symbolizing the collective spirit of the community.
