Ohne Titel

Central West End MetroLink station tunnel
Aluminum lamp housings, colored acrylic lenses, fluorescent lamps
325′ w., each lamp approximately 10″ in diameter

MetroLink passengers traveling through the dark tunnel are startled by dabs of glowing colors that span the tunnel wall in an evenly spaced spectrum.  The vision vanishes almost before the mind can register its response.  Ohne Titel is a sensory experience that delights even upon repeated sightings.  The 60-lamp spectral light piece heightens the experience of movement and introduces dynamic sensations of color and light.

An encounter with Ohne Titel is a fleeting, ephemeral experience, which is exactly what the artist intends.  Light is Eliasson’s primary medium.  He is fascinated by its immateriality and the various moods it creates.  An internationally recognized artist, Eliasson frequently creates environments that incorporate viewers as participants.
