Arts in Transit ensures that transit enhancements, as well as new design projects, are both functional and aesthetically pleasing by involving artists as members of the design teams. Examples of such projects include the designs of the MetroLink system itself, Delmar streetscape improvements, the Gravois-Hampton MetroBus Center, and the Ballas MetroBus Center.

In addition to those artists, AIT's Design Review Committees, comprised of artists, local design professionals, and community representatives, provide input into a variety of Metro projects to ensure that a strong community voice is heard throughout the design and construction phase of civic projects.

AIT's work in the civic design field also incorporates the coordination of customer and community input into the design process by convening focus groups, arranging charrettes, and conducting surveys to assure a "user" perspective.
