Artwork Image Competition: $1,000 Use Fee Paid to Artists

Metro Arts in Transit is announcing a new opportunity for local visual artists to have their work displayed across the St. Louis region. Up to ten two-dimensional images will be selected for reproduction as large-scale posters that will be installed in more than 200 bus shelters throughout the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County.

Local artists (residing within 50 miles of the City of St. Louis) are invited to submit up to three images for consideration. The bus shelter posters will be 69” x 48” in size and will be displayed through 2016. The images will also be produced in a 40” x 30” (vertical) poster format as a limited edition of 20 prints offered for individual sale to support Metro Arts in Transit, Inc., a not-for-profit 501(c)(3).

Each artists will receive five copies of the limited edition poster and be paid $1,000 for use of their original image.

Submission Guidelines
Artists interested in submitting artwork should provide up to three (3) digital images (low-resolution jpg) on a CD along with a cover letter with their contact information and an image list with artists name, title of the work, date the work was completed, medium of work and a short description of the artwork. If selected, images will need to be resubmitted as a high resolution PDF.

Images derived through two-dimensional media will be considered, including but not limited to: photography, painting, printmaking, illustration, collage and computer-generated graphics.

The deadline for receipt of submissions is 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Submissions can be sent to:

Entries must be received by this date, not just postmarked. Entries may be delivered in person up to the deadline. Submissions will not be returned.

Selection Process

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of artists/art professionals who will recommend up to ten images. The criteria for selection is:

  • Quality of the work
  • Appropriateness for public display
  • Intriguing, thought provoking, inspiring, entertaining, or have an enduring image/content
  • Image clarity

Artists whose work is selected for reproduction/publication will be required to enter into a letter of agreement with Arts in Transit, Inc., for the limited copyright use of the image for public display in bus shelters for up to one year, rights to the image for reproduction in a limited edition of twenty prints, and attest that the artist is the sole creator of the work.

In addition to the selected image, each poster will include the artwork’s title and the name of the artist. Credits on the poster will also include: MetroScapes Presented by Metro Arts in Transit.

Selected images will be announced on our website www.artsintransit.org in late June, 2016.
